How to Use F2F Translator

1. Choose Partner's Language: Select the language of the person you're speaking with from the top dropdown.
2. Dual Action Speech Buttons: Tap "🎤 Listen to me speaking" when you speak, or "👂 Listen to the other person" when your partner speaks.
3. Automatic Translation & Speech: The app translates instantly and automatically speaks the translation out loud for the other person.
4. Face-to-Face Split Screen: Place your phone between you across the table. Your partner's text appears inverted 180° so they can read it naturally.
5. Configure Speaking Language: Open Settings (⚙️) to customize the language you speak into the microphone (English default for free tier).

Tips for Best Results

• Speak clearly and at a normal pace
• Use Chrome (Desktop/Android) or Safari (Desktop/iOS) for best compatibility
• Grant microphone permissions when prompted
• For best AI quality and cloud speech recognition, upgrade to Pro Siap Pakai or add your own Gemini API key

Translation Tiers & Quality

F2F Translator uses a 3-tier cascade to ensure high quality and zero downtime:

• ✨ Paket Pro Siap Pakai: Zero configuration. Powered by Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Cloud Functions with high-speed AI translation and speech transcription. Subscribe via Midtrans QRIS/VA or Stripe in Settings.
• 🔑 Bring Your Own Key (BYOK): Use your personal API keys (Google Gemini, Google Cloud Translate, DeepL). Stored 100% locally in your browser.
• 🌐 Free Tier Fallback: Public open translation APIs (MyMemory / LibreTranslate). Always free, no setup required.

Google Gemini API Key (Recommended BYOK)

⚡ High speed, contextual AI translations. Generous free tier available via Google AI Studio.

1. Go to Google AI Studio →
2. Sign in with your Google account
3. Click "Get API key" and then "Create API key"
4. Copy your generated API key
5. Return to F2F Translator Settings (⚙️) and paste it into the "Google Gemini API Key" field
6. Click "Save"

🔒 Your API key is stored only in your browser's localStorage and never transmitted to our backend servers.

Google Cloud Translation API

💰 Cost: ~$20 per 1 million characters (~500,000 words)

1. Go to Google Cloud Console →
2. Create a new project (or select an existing one)
3. Click "Enable APIs and Services"
4. Search for "Cloud Translation API" and enable it
5. Go to "Credentials" → "Create Credentials" → "API Key"
6. (Optional but recommended) Click "Restrict Key" → Select "Cloud Translation API"
7. Copy the API key
8. Return to F2F Translator settings and paste it in the Google API key field
9. Click "Save"

DeepL API

💰 Free: 500,000 characters/month | Pro: $5-25/month

1. Go to DeepL Pro API →
2. Click "Sign up for free" (or choose a Pro plan)
3. Complete the registration
4. After logging in, go to "Account" → "API Keys"
5. Copy your authentication key
6. Return to F2F Translator settings and paste it in the DeepL API key field
7. Click "Save"

👥 Dual Action Conversation Buttons

Two separate speech buttons dedicated to each speaker eliminate the need to manually reverse languages.

How it works: Tap "🎤 Listen to me speaking" when you speak, and "👂 Listen to the other person" when your partner speaks.

🔄 Inverted Face-to-Face Display

When sitting across a table, the other person's translated bubble is automatically rotated 180 degrees so they can read it upright from their perspective.

🔊 Auto-Play Translation

When enabled, the app automatically plays the translation voice without having to manually click the 🔊 button.

Use case: Fully conversational operation — just tap and listen.

🔤 Phonetic Romanization

Automatically displays phonetic reading aids (Pinyin for Chinese, Romaji for Japanese, Revised Romanization for Korean) underneath non-Latin scripts.

🛑 Stop Listening

While the app is actively listening, tap the button to cancel recording or reset.

🎤 Microphone Not Working

Solution:

• Check if your browser has microphone permission granted
• Chrome: Click the 🔒 icon in the address bar → Site settings → Microphone → Allow
• Safari: Safari menu → Settings for This Website → Microphone → Allow
• Try refreshing the page after granting permission

🌐 Translation Not Working

Solution:

• Check your internet connection
• Make sure you're speaking clearly and in the selected language
• Try speaking a bit slower or louder
• If using an API key, verify it's entered correctly

📱 App Won't Install

Solution:

• Chrome/Edge: Look for the install icon in the address bar
• Safari (iOS): Tap Share → Add to Home Screen
• Safari (macOS): File → Add to Dock
• Make sure you're using HTTPS (not HTTP)

🔇 No Voice Output

Solution:

• Check your device volume is not muted
• Try clicking the 🔊 button manually on a translation
• Some browsers may require user interaction before playing audio
• Try reloading the page

• Try using a different browser (Chrome or Safari recommended)
• Clear your browser cache and cookies
• Check the browser console for error messages (F12 → Console tab)
